Thales pursues an active policy of Research and Development (R&D) to ensure that its technologies, products and systems are always on the cutting edge. R&D activities represent the equivalent of 18% of Group revenues.
A fifth of the overall R&D effort is directed towards the technologies of the future:
the main focus is on dual technologies that have
significant potential in all three business areas
(Aerospace, Defence and IT&S)
a large proportion of the Group's technological research
is aimed at reducing the costs of increasingly complex
products and systems through innovative tools and
methods for systems engineering, electronics and
software projects
Partnership is one of the pillars of the Thales R&D strategy. In technological research, the Group has developed partnerships with many of the leading European research institutes and universities, and provides venture capital for high-tech start-ups in selected fields.
Numerous graduate students are also working on doctoral theses either with the Group's corporate R&D establishment or with the research and development departments of its business units.
